The need for research that brings understanding of social problems and challenges and transform it to provide benefits to society, communities and individuals is at the heart of the creation of the Research Center in Social Work and Social Intervention (CISIS). CISIS is an Research & Development unit that aims to contribute to a new generation of knowledge in social work and to the development of social intervention based on scientific evidence. In a close relationship with institutions, professionals in the social field, as well as other social researchers, CISIS also intends to contribute to the deepening of knowledge about the main social problems and challenges of our society and the development and evaluation of social policies and innovative skills and practices capable of promoting the inclusion, diversity, social protection and well-being of citizens.

Vision and Objectives

CISIS is based on six essential pillars: Research excellence, Innovation, Excellence of intervention , Reach and significance, Integrity and Inclusion.

Based on these pillars, CISIS is committed to the following objectives:

  • To promote research based on criteria of high rigor and quality;
  • To seek research support funds, setting feasible goals at university level, organic and individual unit;
  • To promote knowledge exchange, through the development of robust partnerships with the relevant scientific community and public and private institutions of the social sector, national and international;
  • To foster the disseminatation of the research carried out, through publications in specialized journals and participation in relevant scientific events;
  • To reinforce interdisciplinarity, favoring the debate and the study of themes and problems of a strongly interdisciplinary character;
  • Investment in People, ensuring a strong culture of research and providing a favorable environment for the continuous individual and team development;
  • To promote postgraduate research, creating a community of students/researchers post-graduated dedicated to innovative and impact research;
  • To create a culture of integrity, with a view to the development of good ethical practices in research, as a fundamental pillar of CISIS and its researchers and collaborators.
